A mum from Bilton has landed a date with a star from Gogglebox after hitting her fundraising target of £2,000.
Hayley Lloyd, of May Lane, has been raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign since her eight-year-old son Tommy was diagnosed with the muscle-wasting disease.
The single mum tweeted George Gilbey, one of the Channel 4 show’s participants, and asked him for a date if she could reach her fundraising target.
Hayley said: “I never expected him to say yes so I was delighted.
“Coming to terms with Tommy’s condition has been heartbreaking but I refuse to take things lying down and have decided to jump out of a plane to raise vital funds.”
George, 30, from Essex, has said he will also take part in the skydive in September if Hayley manages to raise £3,000. His family are one of 16 on the show, which looks at the way people interact with television.
Hayley added: “George talked about not being able to get a girlfriend and I’ve been single for four years so I thought it was an excellent opportunity to get a date.
“Apart from raising lots of money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, I also want to show Tommy that you can conquer your fears and do things you never thought were possible.
“Throwing myself out of a plane is one of the most terrifying things I can think of doing as I don’t like heights or really like planes either. I hate going fast and don’t even like rollercoasters so this challenge is absolutely perfect.”
Hayley has already raised £2,400 and is hoping to reach her target of £3,000 in time for the skydive in September. To support Hayley and donate to the cause visit www.justgiving.com/Hayley-Lloyd1 or text MUSC50 to 70070 to send a £3 donation.
The show won a 2014 BAFTA in the Reality and Constructed Factual category. Its return in March was watched by 2.7 million people.
Royle Family star Caroline Aherne narrates the documentary and has confirmed she will continue to do so despite her battle with lung cancer. Its twitter account @C4Gogglebox has over 81,000 followers. It also received a BAFTA nomination for the Radio Times Audience Award.
