An online budget calculator has been launched to help demonstrate the scale of the financial challenge faced by Warwickshire County Council.
Last month council leader Cllr Izzi Seccombe announced that local authority was seeking to make further savings of £92m from its already stretched budgets by 2018. In a speech at full council on September 26 Cllr Seccombe said she wanted to start a conversation with people about the decisions that need to be made to shape the future of the council. The campaign launched to encourage feedback will be known as Let’s Talk.
The first stage sees the launch of the online calculator to enable residents to see how the council’s base budget is spent and invites them to suggest how they think money could be saved.
Cllr Seccombe said: “The scale of the challenge means we need to prioritise which services to deliver and improve, while taking tough choices about which ones to scale back or stop all together.
“We want residents to get involved – to tell us what is important to them while seeing the difficult balancing act of making savings while protecting vital services.”
The application is available through warwickshire.gov.uk/letstalk.
