Top landmarks for Pokemon GO users to visit in Rugby town centre

Rugby School and the Benn Hall are among the landmarks listed as '˜Pokestops' in the new mobile gaming sensation Pokemon GO.

The game encourages people to visit landmarks so they can pick up useful items which can help them collect Pokemon - monsters of various shapes and sizes.

A spokesperson for the GAME store in Rugby advised that Caldecott Park was the best hotspot in town for catching Pokemon - with readers sending us their screenshots of characters they’ve encountered.

Other sites for players to visit include Rugby Town Hall - home to Rugby Borough Council - as well as Sheep Street, the clock inside the Clock Towers shopping centre, the United Reform church on Hillmorton Road and the War Memorial gates by Whitehall Rec.

Pokemon GO was officially released for mobile devices in the UK this week.

It was already available in the US, Australia and Germany but some UK gamers found ways around the country restriction to get early access.

The app lets players roam a map using their phone’s GPS location data and catch Pokemon to train and battle.

The game has been a massive success for Nintendo, which part-owns the franchise,

It is now the biggest game in US history according to online survey company SurveyMonkey.

As of Tuesday, Pokemon Go attracted just under 21 million daily active users in the United States.

Previous record holders include Draw Something and Candy Crush at roughly 16 million and 20 million, respectively.

Pokemon GO can be downloaded from the app stores on various mobile devices and requires users to log in via a Google account and includes in-app purchases.
