A unique fashion, beauty and music afternoon has taken place at Willow Tree nursing home in Rugby – after inspectors rated the home as “excellent”.

Residents and their families enjoyed a shopping showcase from the comfort of their own home thanks to organisers.

Brands such as Brantano, Avon, Tiggy and Greenwoods Menswear, took part, with products including clothes, accessories, gifts and make-up.

Impact Dance with Hayley, a group for youngsters aged seven to 17, also performed during the afternoon alongside local singer Martin Reeves who covered a range of old-time 50s songs.

The afternoon, part of a new programme of events organised by the home’s staff, was attended by almost 100 people and is the latest piece of good news for Willow Tree, who have just been awarded an ‘excellent’ rating in the latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) report.

Gener Tayhopon, home manager said: “We are absolutely delighted the event went so well and it was great to be able to support local businesses.

“Residents and their families enjoyed having them here to display their products, especially as some residents find it difficult to get out. So they loved the chance to browse the stalls and chat to local retailers from the comfort of the home.

“The event wasn’t just about shopping. It also showcased some impressive talent via the dance group and brought back some great memories through the songs from Martin Reeves.

“We really cannot thank everyone enough for contributing and look forward to holding more events for residents throughout the rest of this year.

“The success of the event is also the icing on the cake following the good news of our new ‘excellent’ rating by the Care Quality Commission. The report focussed on every detail here at Willow Tree – from comfort, facilities and care. To be rated so highly shows we are excelling and giving the best possible care for residents, meeting standards and going over and above.”

The ‘excellent’ rating from the CQC’s most recent report means Willow Tree has met all the standards and more in terms of what the commission look for in a care home. Willow Tree Nursing Home, in School Street, is set over an acre of private grounds and specialises in caring for elderly patients requiring personal, nursing and dementia care.
