A new bench has been unveiled outside the shop in Stretton on Dunsmore in recognition of the village doctor.

Dr Mike Houghton built the Brookside Surgery 25 years ago which has ‘grown beyond recognition’.

When he retired last year, there was a thank you collection but Dr Houghton wanted to donate it back to the village.

The money has now been used to buy a bench.

John Simmonds, chairman of the parish council, said: “We will be forever grateful to Dr Houghton for giving us the facilities we’ve got and for all he’s done.”
