Today (Wednesday December 4) was the official opening of Rugby’s new Queen Diamond Jubilee Centre.

We spoke to Sophie Randall, GB synchronised swimming star, about her verdict on the town’s new facility and the councillor in charge of leisure in the borough, Cllr Heather Timms.

In addition to the 25m pool, the centre has a separate studio pool with moveable floor, a six court sports hall, a large 100-station gym, feature climbing wall, space for dance and martial arts classes, and a coffee shop.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre replaces the Ken Marriott Leisure Centre, which served the borough for 40 years before it closed earlier this year.

Cllr Heather Timms, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for economy, development and culture, said: “We now have one of the most modern and best equipped centres in the region, a centre which will meet the needs of Rugbeians for a generation.”
