Sci-fi fans lined up to meet Red Dwarf star Chris Barrie at the launch of a new coffee and comic shop today (Friday 8).

Chris, who played Rimmer in the hit sci-fi comedy, signed autographs and discussed what Kuni Coffee, known as Kuni’s, had to offer.

Fans were treated to free balloons, stickers, cupcakes and had the chance to have their photo taken with a giant Minion from the hit film Despicable Me and a Dalek from Doctor Who.

The ‘lifestyle coffee shop’ sells ice cream shakes, American candy, coffee, comic books, anime, manga, toys and much more.

It employs 16 people and has 150 square metres of prime retail space at 33–34 High Street.

The interior has been fitted out to ensure all seating locations have power, head-phone sockets for audio from the TV screens and free Wi-Fi.

Chris Barrie said: “Kuni’s is great because it offers something new and a bit different.

“It has TVs and wifi and allows people to make all the connections they want in the modern world.

“It’s great to meet fans in Rugby and I hope Kuni’s is very successful.”

Bryan Cooney, managing director of Kuni Coffee Ltd, said: “We have invested heavily in the new business and see Rugby as the perfect fit for what we offer and a platform for us to expand throughout the Midlands.

“I would like to say a special thank you to Rugby First who were able to identify a range of potential locations in the town as well as provide useful contacts to help us get the shop open quickly.”

Kuni’s also has a shop in Daventry.
