On Saturday St George rode into Rugby town centre on his ‘steed’ – a motorised horse – last Saturday to celebrate the feast day of England’s patron saint.
The festivities also included a craft fair, tea cup rides, face painting, magic show, Punch and Judy, woodcraft demonstrations, a static motorcycle display, a cadet band, birds of prey and an Easter egg hunt.
Rugby’s first St George’s Day celebration was held in 2008. Organisers Rugby First say the annual event is one of the biggest in Warwickshire, providing a colourful spectacle and a welcome boost to the local economy.
Patrick Weir, Rugby First’s operation manager, said: “The event was a resounding success and a good crowd attended throughout the day. Feedback from the public and businesses has been extremely positive.”
The Play Café scooped top prize in the window dressing competition, judged by the Mayor of Rugby.
