A woman arrested after a botched attempt to smuggle cannabis into Rye Hill Prison near Rugby has been jailed for four months.
Prison officers searched 21-year-old Alexandria Prior in November last year after becoming suspicious when she was spoke oddly to guards while there to visit her boyfriend.
She was found to have a small bag of cannabis in her mouth, and when a locker where prison visitors leave their belongings was searched, more cannabis was found.
Prior, from Westway in London, appeared at Northampton Crown Court on February 26, pleading guilty to possession of cannabis and conveying cannabis into a prison.
Alex Bull, prosecuting, said the bag in Prior’s mouth contained about £20-worth of cannabis.
Judge Richard Bray said he acknowledged pressure from Prior’s boyfriend but said that a custodial sentence was necessary.
