Ambulance service attends 3,000 calls in 24-hour period on busiest day of the year

‘MAD Friday’ lived up to its reputation as one of the busiest days of the year for West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Last Friday (December 14) was the busiest day so far for the ambulance service with almost 3,000 calls recorded in a 24-hour period.

Plans were already in place to deal with the thousands of people across the West Midlands who were expected to enjoy their Christmas parties.

Additional resources were on-hand with upwards of 20% more ambulance vehicles available at peak times.

WMAS Assistant Chief Ambulance Officer Craig Cooke said: “We know from previous experience that this weekend would be extremely busy for us. The figures from yesterday show it was our busiest day of the year so far.”
