BREAKING NEWS: Rugby man sentenced to five years two months for violent assault
ARRONJIT Singh Colar has been sentenced to five years and two months after stabbing a man in the head.
Colar, 19 of Percival Road, was sentenced today (Friday) at Warwick Criwn Court in Leamington.
He was also sentenced to eighteen months imprisonment for possessing a knife, blade or sharp pointed article in a public place, to run concurrently.
The incident occurred at Viallis Restaurant in Victoria Terrace, Leamington Spa at 2.30am hours on Wednesday September 19 2012 when it is believed a group of five people had been arguing with staff at the restaurant.
The group turned their attention to a male in his 30s and his friend and during an altercation the male was stabbed in the head with an unknown instrument.
The male was treated by ambulance staff and taken to Warwick Hospital for treatment to a five inch gash to the top of his head.
The five people got into a taxi following the incident and during the investigation that followed, officers appealed for information to identify them and the offender who carried out the assault.
However Colar was identified the next day by a Safer Neighbourhood Officer who recognised him after seeing a clear image taken from CCTV at the restaurant.
Colar was arrested at 2.30pm on Thursday September 20 2012 and following questioning, was charged the next day, Friday September 21 2012 and remanded into custody by Nuneaton Magistrates where he appeared on Saturday morning, 22 September 2012.
He pleaded guilty to Section 18 wounding with intent and with possessing a knife, blade or sharp pointed article in a public place when he appeared before Warwick Crown Court on December 14 2012.
Investigating officer Carl Buckley said: “This was a particularly vicious assault as Colar can be seen on CCTV reaching over other people to stab the male in the head. We were delighted to arrest Colar so soon after the assault and to be able to quickly reassure the public that he was remanded in custody. He has been in prison since his arrest where he will now serve the remainder of his sentence.
“We will continue to work closely with licensed premises and CCTV operators throughout Warwickshire to arrest anyone suspected of committing violence in Warwickshire so that the majority of law abiding citizens can enjoy a safe night out.!
