Business leader’s hopes for 2012: confidence growing in Rugby, says survey

A leading business figure in Rugby believes the town could be in for a prosperous New Year.

And Simon Leech, the Rugby branch chair of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said firms in the town should tap into support to keep on growing.

Mr Leech pointed to the fact that the final Quarterly Economic Survey carried out by the Chamber in final quarter of 2012 suggested firms in the region were heading into the New Year with more confidence than in the previous quarter.

The Quarterly Economic Survey involves firms across the region being polled by the Chamber in order to give an indication of the local economy’s health.

Mr Leech believes that those positive figures, coupled with the assistance available, could make 2013 more prosperous for Rugby firms.

He said: “We all know that the past 12 months have been tough for many businesses - but there are also many companies that are thriving too.

“I think there are signs that companies in Rugby and the surrounding borough will see improvement in the New Year.

“We have had some positive announcements recently here in Rugby too – Debenhams is coming, pedestrianisation is due to begin and the Catthorpe Interchange should be developed very soon.

“On top of that, I would urge companies in Rugby to make the most of the support available from the Chamber in order to grow their business in the New Year or, indeed, ask those people wanting to set-up a company for the first time to get in touch.

“The fact that the Quarterly Economic Survey suggested that there is more confidence in the region going into 2013 is encouraging and something we need to build on and nurture.”
