Catthorpe interchange public inquiry next week
HA0428. March 2008. M1 Slip road, near Swinford, Rugby, Warwickshire
A public inquiry into the proposed improvements to the Catthorpe interchange accident blackspot opens on Tuesday next week.
The controversial £300m plan will see improvements made to traffic flows, but not include an all directions junction for the M6, M1 and A14, rather traffic heading in certain directions (such as north on the M1 to head east on the A14) would have to loop back on itself on the motor-way from junction 20, or go through villages. The inquiry provides the opportunity for all points of view to be heard and considered before recommendations are put to the Secretary of State for Transport.
The Highways Agency says work is necessary due to the fact 157,000 vehicles pass through the junction daily and this was expected to increase to over 225,000 by 2029.
The inquiry will be held at the Holiday Inn at Junction 18 of the M1 at Crick starting at 10am. Any alternatives proposed by objectors will also be considered by the inspector – these include different configurations and the more-expensive all directions option.
Further information about the proposals is available at highways.gov.uk.
