THE county’s online service for people affected by dementia has been praised by Prime Minister David Cameron.

Mr Cameron joined with Marcus Jones, MP for Nuneaton, in commending Warwickshire County Council and local healthcare organisations in developing the county council’s Dementia Portal, which is providing an “excellent” service to people affected by dementia and their carers. The Prime Minister said: “I am happy to join my honourable friend in paying tribute to his county council. We do need to do far more as a country to tackle dementia.”

As a result of public, carers’ and professionals’ feedback, the information portal has information for people who have had a diagnosis of dementia. It has practical hints, tips and links to resources and services that can ensure people are able to live well with their condition for as long as possible.

Cllr Izzi Seccombe, portfolio holder for adult social care, said: “The use of technology in dementia care is a growing area of innovation that we want to be a part of and by working in partnership with other agencies to develop better dementia services in our local communities we believe we can make a real difference for the better.”

The portal is available via warwickshire.gov.uk/livingwellwithdementia.
