Crime down in Rugby according to community safety partnership
END of year crime statistics have shown that the Rugby Community Safety Partnership is winning the fight against crime in the borough.
Analysis also shows that the partnership is offering exceptional value for money, for example saving £16.50 for every pound of £13,934 spent on tackling burglary.
Domestic burglary is on target for a reduction of 100 offences in a full year, which if achieved will save £230,000 in social and economic costs - as well as seeing 100 fewer victims of crime.
In December across Warwickshire there were 157 burglaries: 59 in Nuneaton and Bedworth, 59 in the South Warwickshire Community Safety Partnership area 22 in North Warwickshire, but only 17 in Rugby.
So far this financial year the Partnership has provided:
400 door alarms to elderly or vulnerable householders
1,100 timers to automatically switch lights and radios
500 bottles of smartwater to mark property
660 window alarms
More than 400 new neighbourhood watch members joined, and 217,000 people received a burglary reduction message on their mobile phones via Bluetooth, with 12,600 choosing to receive a further crime prevention message.
Violent crime has been held at last year’s levels, but high risk repeat domestic abuse is down by 16 per cent. Anti-social behaviour against individuals is down by 9 per cent with all targets to reduce vulnerability being met.
Cllr Derek Poole, Deputy Leader of Rugby Borough Council and Chair of the Rugby Community Safety Partnership, said: “The partnership is doing exceptionally well in reducing crime and antisocial behaviour in Rugby. We are not complacent however as we are already preparing a robust programme of activity for 2013/14 in order to sustain and build on these achievements.
“We will need the full support of the newly elected Police and Crime Commissioner and we hope that our effectiveness is reflected in the community safety grants that he is able to award in his first budget.”
