Dunchurch Pantomaniacs open new-look venue
Volunteers held a re-opening of Dunchurch Library recently, to celebrate the changes they have had made to the building and show it off to other groups and people who may be interested in hiring it. VOLUNTEERS celebrated the newly improved facilities at a community run library in Dunchurch with a special open day.
The event took place at Dunchurch Library on Saturday, where the Dunchurch Pantomaniacs took time out from rehearsing Dick Whittington to cut the ribbon.
Volunteer Ann Wright said: “The reason we are holding this event now is to increase the awareness of our library and its facilities to organisations and residents in the Dunchurch area. It also allows key members of local organisations to see the improvements that have been made to the library.
“As well as increasing the already large numbers of people using the book and information facilities, we are hoping to encourage use of the building outside library opening hours. We stress that we are not seeking to poach regular users of any existing facilities within Dunchurch as we see the library as a complementary venue.”
Dunchurch Parish Council took over the operation of the library from Warwickshire County Council in April 2012 and it has been able to open on all planned sessions thanks to dedicated volunteers.
In recent weeks improvements to the library include making a dedicated parish council office, general office, a new public toilet which is suitable for disabled visitors, baby changing facilities, changes to the entrance to make an inviting lobby and new flooring in the entrance and around the refreshment area.
Mrs Wright said: “We feel these improvements will enhance the usefulness to our community.”
As a community library, the volunteer committee is responsible for all the costs and maintenance of the building - with support from the parish council.
To help with fundraising the Library Shop opened in September last year and in addition volunteers are hope to hire the building out, as well as hold regular fundraisers.
Mrs Wright said: “We hope that the community will continue to support us. Our volunteers are determined to see the library continue and we can only do this with continued support.”
