IF YOUR New Year’s resolution is to explore your family history or discover more about your local area then Warwickshire County Council’s Heritage and Culture team can help get you started.

With a range of informative courses on offer there is something for everyone. The following events take place in January at Warwickshire County Record Office, which is located at Priory Park, Cape Road, Warwick. All workshops cost £12 unless otherwise stated.

Family Tree Maker on Saturday January 12 (9.15am to 12.15pm) will be ideal for anyone interested in displaying the results of their family history research. This workshop by family historian Jennifer Cranfield explores the Family Tree Maker genealogy software programme and shows people how to get the best out of it.

The session on Saturday January 19 (9.15am to 12.15pm), Internet Sources for Family History, will help people improve research skills and get the best out of the internet when looking up family history.

Reading manorial records on Saturday 26 January (9.15am to 12.15pm) will be welcomed by amateur historians who need help understanding Latin phrases, the terms used and some of the practices which can seem very alien to modern life. This class will give practical experience in reading these tricky documents.

The FREE Archives Online session 10am to 11am on Thursday January 31 will show people how to use Warwickshire’s Past Unlocked, the County Record Office’s own online catalogue.
