Fire brigade councillor retires

The county councillor responsible for Warwickshire’s fire service has announced he is retiring.

Cllr Richard Hobbs (Con, Aston Cantlow), a farmer, was first elected to the county council in 1997 and has been portfolio holder for community safety, which also includes policing, trading standards and road safety.

Cllr Hobbs, who is retiring at the county elections in May, said: “I have enjoyed every moment of my time in politics and can say, with hand on heart, that I have put everything into it.

“But it has been demanding and now is the right time to step aside and pursue some of my hobbies with my family while I am young and fit enough.”
