Hundreds turn out for Remembrance Day parade in Rugby

The Mayor, civic party walked from the rear of Lesley Souter House, Whitehall Road, to the memorial gates to participate in the service and parade. Some 20 contingents took part, including HMS Tireless, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, the Royal British Legion, ex-service organisations, the Territorial Army, Cadet units, civil and voluntary organisations, Scouts, Guides, Girls Brigade and Boys Brigade. The units assembled on Hillmorton Road between the Recreation Ground and Temple Street to be reviewed by the Mayor at 10.30am before they marched on parade in front of the memorial gates During the service a two minutes silence took place and the laying of wreaths at the memorial gates by the Mayor and the units on parade followed. RUGBY’S annual Remembrance service and parade took place at the war memorial gates on Hillmorton Road yesterday (Sunday).
The Mayor, Cllr Kathryn Lawrence was joined by various guests walking from the back of Lesley Souter House in Whitehall Road, to the memorial gates to take part in the service and parade.
Some 20 military contingents and other organisations also took part, including representatives from HMS Tireless, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, the Royal British Legion, ex-service organisations, the Territorial Army, cadet units, civil and voluntary organisations, Scouts, Guides, the Girls’ Brigade and the Boys’ Brigade.
During the service there was a two minute silence and the laying of wreaths at the memorial gates by the Mayor and the units on parade.
The service was followed by a march past of all those on parade. The music for the service was provided by the Salvation Army Band.
The service was taken by Reverend Peter Privett, assisted by Father Tony Furlong. The salutation was given by Commander R Hywel Griffiths of the Royal Navy. The response was read by cadet Staff Sergeant Jennifer Thrower-Menzies, Rugby Troop, Warwickshire and West Midlands (south sector) Army Cadet force.
