Jobs available in town as business booms at Alstom in Rugby
ALSTOM, which employs 700 people in Rugby, has announced that 53 vacancies have arisen in the town due to growing sales.
Factors in the company’s growth include an £83 million contract – to be carried out in Rugby – to provide steam turbines to the Kriel power station in South Africa.
Other contracts won by Alstom UK include a major contract in India and work on Transport for London’s Northern tube line.
Steve Burgin, president of Alstom UK, said: “Given the general global economic conditions, Alstom in the UK is doing extremely well, especially as much of our success is happening overseas markets. Those contract wins, and these results, show that engineering is not only alive and well in the UK but also reaching out to win orders from around the world.”
Installation of the parts built in Rugby is scheduled to begin in June 2014.
The company received orders of £835 million in the third quarter of the current financial year and saw sales reach £890 million.
