London crash helicopter pilot had flown air ambulance

The pilot who died when his helicopter crashed in London yesterday had flown for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA).
Pete Barnes, 50, was educated at Oakham Independent School and worked for a variety of clients including the BBC.
At the time of the accident he was working for Rotor Motion. He was one of the country’s most experienced Agusta pilots and had flown for RotorMotion since 1997.
The WNAA chief executive Andy Williamson said: “We are deeply saddened to hear the news that Pete Barnes was killed in the helicopter accident in London.
“Pete had worked with us for many years and will be greatly missed.
“Our thoughts are with his family and with all the families affected by this tragedy.”
Workers for Northampton-based Briggs and Forrester were also caught up in the tragedy.
About 100 of the firm’s employees, many of who come from Northamptonshire, were having a safety briefing in a basement adjoining The Tower, at St George Wharf, when the accident happened.
Managing director John Wilcox said: “I got a phone call almost straight away from the project manager saying everyone had evacuated safely.”
