Lower petrol prices welcomed in Rugby

PETROL prices have dropped in Rugby since the opening of Asda.

Asda opened its new petrol station in Corporation Street earlier this month.

The petrol station opened with a 129.7p for petrol, which was five to six pence lower than its rivals.

Asda said it hoped to bring the lowest price of fuel to people in Rugby.

Rivals in town have now been forced to drop their prices as well.

According to petrolprices.com on Friday, Tesco in Leicester Road was 130.9p, Sainsbury’s in Dunchuch Road was 128.9p and Murco in Leicester Road was 129.9p.

The news has been welcomed by many motorists in Rugby.

Suze Wright said: “I can’t afford to eat properly and that’s partly due to the price of petrol so just a few pence makes a difference to me.

Mark Pawsey, MP for Rugby, said: “Added to this Government’s decision not to impose the additional 3p per litre put in place by the last Government, the news that fuel prices in Rugby are lower as a result of new competition between retailers is a great boost for motorists and families alike. It is especially welcome at this time of year as people travel more over the Christmas period to visit family and friends.”
