A GROUP of young musicians have performed for an enthusiastic and appreciative audience as part of a popular annual competition.

The talented eight were competing for the title of Rugby Rotary Young Musician 2011/12 at Lawrence Sheriff School last week.

Judges awarded the instrumental title to James Heathcote, 15, from Lawrence Sheriff School, who played a tricky and lively piece by Aaron Minsky on his cello.

The runner-up was Sam Tiller who played a piece by Benny Goodman on his clarinet. The vocal title went to Caitlin Hargreaves from Rugby High School who sang ‘I Can’t Say No’ from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Oklahoma.

The winners will represent Rugby in the next round of the competition next year.
