New opening times for libraries in Rugby and Wolston
REVISED opening hours from April 1 have been announced for two libraries in Rugby following consultation with residents.
Nearly 1,000 residents responded to consultation questionnaires at libraries and online and gave their preferences for opening hours at both Wolston and Rugby libraries.
The libraries were among 18 libraries across the county whose new opening hours were decided following a recent two month consultation.
Questionnaires put forward two options for opening hours, based on known usage such as visits and loans per hour along with other relevant local factors such as market days.
Of the respondents who expressed a preference, a narrow majority of 55% voted for the option ultimately chosen for Wolston whilst a more decisive 80% selected the opening hours option for Rugby Library which will be one of three libraries in the county to open on Sundays as residents requested.
The overall reduction in opening hours will contribute to the service achieving target savings of over £2million.
Cllr Colin Hayfield, portfolio holder for customers, access and physical assets, said: “Throughout the transformation of the library service, the county council has worked with communities to ensure that they have the best library service that resources allow for their communities.
“The level of engagement from the public has been exceptional from the initial consultation to how we could transform the service and make the necessary savings to the level of response to this questionnaire. Thousands of our customers have voted on the hours that would best suit the way that they use their library.”
