Public consultation launched in Warwickshire ahead of superfast broadband roll out
WARWICKSHIRE County Council has started a public consultation based on commercial broadband providers’ plans to roll out superfast broadband.
The authority recently carried out an open market review, in which suppliers were invited to submit information about their future business development plans.
As a result of the information received, revised maps have been published showing where minimum 24 Mbps superfast broadband services are planned to be available as well as areas where minimum 2Mbps services will be unavailable.
Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Communities, said: “This is the first time that people will be able to see where the commercial providers expect to roll out their services by 2015.
“This is a vital public consultation as the CSW Broadband project is unable to spend money to improve broadband in areas where commercial upgrades are planned. However, we believe that there are some anomalies in the data that we have received, and would urge anyone who lives in an area that is shown as receiving a commercial upgrade but feels that this is unlikely to happen, to respond to the consultation, which ends in December.”
Maps showing the anticipated speeds across the sub-region, together with the consultation document and a list of what speeds each postcode can expect by 2015, is available on the project website at http://www.cswbroadband.org.uk/suppliers/procurement/
