Rugby councillor’s petition on Cawston Lane, Dunchurch to be debated as residents demand action
Cllr Howard Roberts
THE state of Cawston Lane in Dunchurch will be debated after residents signed a petition calling for action.
The petition was launched by Cllr Howard Roberts, independent ward councillor for Dunsmore, earlier this year after he was inundated with complaints from residents frustrated with the state of the lane.
The petition was signed by more than 150 people, enough to automatically trigger a debate at one of the Warwickshire County Council Community Forums.
At the forum Cllr Roberts will present the petition. Residents will then be granted 30 minutes to present their concerns to county council officers.
Cllr Roberts said: “The state of Cawston Lane has become a very serious concern for residents. Its narrowness combined with excessive speed from some motorists has left villagers concerned that we could see a nasty accident. What we would like the county council to do is assess the highway and accept that the current situation is unacceptable. Then we can start to develop a viable solution.”
The debate on Cawston Lane will take place at the next quarterly meeting of the Dunchurch Community Forum. This will be held on March 13 in Marton Village Hall. The petition has also been passed to the Warwickshire County Council Portfolio Holder for Highways.
