Rugby familes urged to recycle their unwanted Christmas lights
AN ESTIMATED 500 tonnes of Christmas tree lights are discarded in the UK over the Christmas period.
However, even lights that are beyond repair can be recycled by taking them to your nearest recycling centre. All items operated by mains or batteries can be recycled such as mobile phones, hair dryers, toasters, kettles and microwaves to name but a few. Even battery operated toys and games can be recycled.
Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Waste Management, said: “The last thing we want is for people to switch off to recycling, so if you have a set of old Christmas lights or mobile phone please visit your local recycling centre, where a recycling attendant will advise you where to deposit your electrical waste.”
Details about the County Council’s nine recycling centres, including information regarding the opening times, location and the materials that can recycle can be found at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/hwrc
If you have any questions about recycling and disposal please contact the Waste Management Team at WCC on tel: 01926 412458 or email waste@warwickshire.gov.uk
