Rugby man jailed for breach of sex offences order
A Rugby man who flouted a sexual offences prevention order and failed to comply with sex offender register requirements has beenjailed for 36 weeks.
David Thomas Henson was made subject of the order in 2007 and placed on the sex offenders’ register.
He was prohibited from working with children or having unsupervised contact with a child under the age of 16, and banned from allowing any child into premises he occupied.
But he sent a 14-year-old girl a text asking her to visit his home and help him wrap a Christmas present.
“He had been alone with the girl,” said prosecutor Colin Heald at Nuneaton magistrates court last week.
Mr Heald said Henson went shopping with the teenager in Rugby when she wanted to purchase an item of clothing – and he offered to take her to Coventry.
“But that offer was declined because she felt uncomfortable.”
Henson, 63, of Hirst Close, Long Lawford, appeared via video link from HMP Hewell, near Redditch.
He had admitted 13 offences of possessing indecent images of children, one of making an indecent video image of a child and two each of failing to comply with sex offender register notification requirements, and breaching the order.
The offences were committed on dates between January 1 2012 and February 11 2013, the majority at Long Lawford.
The prosecutor said Henson was required to notify police of his foreign travel plans but returned to this country from Ireland on January 29 2013, a day later than he said he would.
On the same date, two computers were seized from Henson’s home address. On one was a photograph of a 14-year-old girl asleep in bed.
A collection of DVDs containing indecent images of children were also seized, together with still photographs.
Mitigating, solicitor Catherine Brockway said Henson accepted he breached the order.
She added that the 14-year-old gave her client photographs from her father’s mobile phone “to put on a disk.”
Magistrates ordered forfeiture and destruction of the computers and images.
