Small Rugby retailers urged to check stock for contaminated horsemeat products
No Caption ABCDE
Warwickshire County Council Trading Standards Service is urging small retailers in Rugby to check their shelves for horsemeat contaminated products.
This follows advice from the Food Standards Agency that Birds Eye products that were withdrawn from sale in February, specifically Spaghetti Bolognese (340g) and Beef Lasagne (400g) may still be on sale at some small retail outlets.
Warwickshire Trading Standards are taking this opportunity remind small retailers to re-check their shelves for these products and remove those they find from sale.
Of the 5000 tests that have been conducted on beef products so far, 99% show no horse DNA at or above the level of 1%.
The Food Standards Agency has also stated that there is no reason to think that there is a food safety problem with the horsemeat.
Retailers requiring further advice are asked to contact Warwickshire Trading Standards on 01926 414040.
Consumers requiring more information should visit the Food Standards Agency website: www.food.gov.uk. A list of the seventeen products found to be contaminated with horsemeat can also be found on this website (updated regularly).
