TWO men from Rugby have been sent to prison for kidnap, robbery and dangerous driving.

Terrence Hannifin, 23, and Ashley James, 20, both from Brownsover, have been sentenced to six and a half years and six years imprisonment respectively after appearing at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday in relation to the offences of kidnap, robbery and dangerous driving.

This followed an incident on April 19 this year where a young man was forced to drive the two around Rugby whilst being subjected to repeated violence and threats.

He was taken to a cash point and forced to withdraw money before being forced back into his vehicle which both offenders then took turns in driving dangerously before eventually the blue Fiesta collided on with a lamppost in Cawston Grange Drive, Cawston. The vehicle was subsequently written off.

James and Hannifin ran off across a grassed area towards Cawston leaving the man, who had suffered minor injuries, in the vehicle. The victim went to a nearby house where he asked a member of the public to call the police.

The investigation led to Hannifin being arrested on April 26 and James on May 24 when both were charged with robbery, driving a motor vehicle dangerously and common law kidnap.

James was also sentenced for another two robberies, the first at Cash4Gold in Rugby on February 15 where the owner was subjected to a violent assault and jewellery was stolen.

The second was in September in Birmingham where a female had a necklace ripped from her neck as she was placing her child into her car.
