A SINGER from Cawston is hoping for Christmas number one as part of a charity choir single celebrating the 2012 Olympics.
Hannah Schofield-Newton, 20, is one of the singers in The Games Maker Choir featuring Alistair Griffin charity single - I Wish For You The World - which is a strong contender for Christmas number one on Sunday.
Hannah was chosen out of hundreds of people in the Games Maker choir to sing on the track and feature in the video.
The former Rugby High School student, who is now at Durham University, said: “It was a real honour to be chosen.”
Hannah spent two weeks working as a volunteer - officially known as a Games Maker - at the Olympics in London in the summer. During that time she replied to an advert to form a choir and the group has continued to grow ever since.
Hannah said: “We were approached by an artist, Alistair Griffin, who wanted to make a song which encapsulated the spirit of the Olympics. I recorded the song just over a month ago in London and on Sunday night we performed the track on BBC red button and BBC Radio 5 Live on the after show of Sports Personality of the Year.”
All the proceeds from the single will be donated to the British Olympic Association and British Olympic Foundation.
Hannah said: “We are hoping to reach Christmas Number 1 and would appreciate anyone’s support. It’s definitely a contender. It’s so exciting.”
I Wish For You The World is up against X Factor winner James Arthur’s Impossible and the Hillsborough charity single He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother for the top spot this Christmas.
Hannah said: “We’ve got some tough competition but it would be lovely to just get into the top ten. It’s for a great cause and it only costs 82p to download.”
