A RUGBY mother has lost an incredible five stone since the start of the year in preparation to take part in a charity walk in memory of her best friend.
Rachel Fordham, 35, woke up one morning in the new year and decided that it would be the day to start losing weight. In just a matter of months she has shed five stone, going from a size 28 to 20. She decided to lose weight after she took part in the Myton Hospice Moonlight Walk last year.
Mrs Fordham, who is the PR ambassador at Sainsbury’s in Dunchurch Road, said: “I knew I wanted to do the walk again but there is no way I could being so heavy. You have to be in the right frame of mind and then one morning I woke up and thought ‘I’m going to do it’.”
Mrs Fordham, who lives with her husband and 11-year-old son in New Bilton, set about on a diet which involved low carbohydrates and high protein, following advice from her doctor.
She said: “Everyone has different diet which suit them. This works for me. The first week was diabolical but it’s fine now.
“I have so much more energy now, it’s brilliant.”
Mrs Fordham will join hundreds of other women who will be taking to the streets of Warwick and Leamington in their pyjamas later this year to raise money for Myton Hospice.
She is taking part in the event, alongside a Sainsbury’s colleague, in memory of her best friend who died a few years ago of a brain tumour.
Mrs Fordham said: “It’s a great event. I know that Myton Hospice was so important to my friend.”
The Moonlight Walk will take place on Saturday, September 10 and will start in the grounds of Warwick Castle.
The ladies-only challenge is an eight-mile route around the towns and entrants are encouraged to dress for the occasion in their favourite night wear.
Last year more than 750 woman took part and raised £70,000 for the charity’s three hospices.
