A ROMANTIC night ended with a big bang as Martin Scholes popped the question to his unsuspecting girlfriend.

Martin, 28, whisked girlfriend Hayleigh Deeming, 22, off for a romantic evening meal at Brownsover Hall in Rugby where he had a rather big surprise waiting for her.

Ben Morley-McKay from firework company Halo FX recommended the hotel to Martin as the perfect setting for his grand proposal and then worked closely with general manager Alan Moxon, having less than 24 hours to make sure all the preparations were in place for the magic moment.

Martin said: “I was feeling really nervous but Hayleigh was oblivious to what was about to happen. Ben set off two fireworks to attract her attention and then the words ‘Marry Me’ appeared cascading down outside the restaurant bay window where we were sitting.”

An emotional Hayleigh said yes straight away and accepted the ring chosen by Martin in front of diners and staff.

Hayleigh said: “Martin is such a romantic type but nothing could have prepared me for this - I am over the moon.”

The happy couple, from Rugby, are now planning on tie the knot next summer.
