Police closed a major Rugby road due to an incident earlier today.

Police closed a section of the A426 (Leicester Road) between the Tesco roundabout and the Avon Mill roundabout due to an incident.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: "Police were called at 2.30pm today, Monday October 16, following concerns for the welfare of a man sitting on the foot bridge located by the Peugeot garage on the A426, Leicester Road, Rugby.

"Police negotiators are currently at the scene and talking to a man in his 20s.

"Emergency services are in attendance.

The link road to the Junction One retail park from the A426 was also closed to traffic.

Police have announced the road is now open.

A spokesman for the Warwickshire Police said: “A man in his 20s came down from the bridge and was detained at approximately 5:49pm and was attended to by the ambulance service.

"Police are engaging with partners to ensure the man receives appropriate medical help and support."
