A 41-year-old man will appear in court today charged with two counts of armed robbery.

James Keay, 41, of no fixed address, will stand before Nuneaton Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday October 13).

He has been charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of possessing an offensive weapon and two counts of possessing an imitation firearm.

It follows an incident at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Church Street, Rugby, on Thursday October 8 where a man threatened staff with a small axe and demanded money before leaving on foot.

A second incident took place at the Royal Bank of Scotland on Queen’s Street in Nuneaton yesterday (Monday October 12) at about 11.15am when a cashier was threatened with a weapon and ordered to hand over cash.

No one was injured during either incident but a substantial amount of cash was taken which was later recovered by police.
