THE A14 around Rugby was closed this morning (Thursday) following a serious crash.
At 6.15am, a van and a lorry were in collision on the eastbound carriageway between junction 1 at Catthorpe and junction 2.
Fire crews were called to free a man who was trapped in the van.
The A14 was fully closed to enable the Air Ambulance to land on the westbound carriageway, and the injured man was flown to University Hospital in Coventry. His injuries are thought to be serious.
An investigation is currently underway and the two vehicles are being recovered for forensic examination.
The incident caused disruption to motorists caught up in the tailbacks and a rolling block was set up to facilitate the smooth movement of traffic and ensure road safety.
The crash has now been clearted and the road is open in both directions.
