RUGBY’S newest supermarket will open its doors for the first time on Monday morning.

To celebrate the opening of the new Morrisons store in Corporation Street, the supermarket chain has given away dozens of loaves of freshly baked bread and pastries to the Rugby branch of the Salvation Army.

In preparation for the opening the bakery ovens had to be fired up to ensure they were in full working order, with all the baked goods being donated to the charity.

General manager Jenny Haywood said: “I am delighted that our first bake is going to such a worthy cause.

“We always try to ensure nothing is wasted and donating the bread to where we know it is needed provides the perfect solution.”

The new Morrisons store will open to the public at 9am on Monday, when there will be an official ribbon cutting ceremony.

Jenny added: “Over the past few weeks, the team has been working night and day to ensure that customers enjoy shopping, Morrisons style, from day one.

“Opening the doors and welcoming the shoppers of Rugby will be the reward for all the training and preparation.”
