Rugby’s MP Mark Pawsey has renewed his appeal for donations of unwanted football shirts in aid of poverty-stricken children in Rwanda.
Since 2010 he has collected hundreds of football shirts for Project Umubano, a social action project in the African country. His latest call for donations marks the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda.
“I have visited Rwanda on two occasions in recent years and have seen first-hand the great work being done through Project Umubano,” said Mr Pawsey.
“You really do have to see it to believe how incredibly football-mad the people of Rwanda are. Their passion for the game is so similar to our own and all they lack is the basic equipment and kit which I hope the people of Rugby will be kind enough to donate to them.”
Mr Pawsey will be contacting all local schools to promote the project. People who have shirts they wish to donate should contact his office on (01788) 579499 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
