A MAN who had taken a cocktail of drugs allegedly stabbed his wife 21 times at her home in Rugby, a court heard.

Damien Fincher, 45, from Birmingham, is charged with the murder of Gabi Chapman, 42.

She died at her home in Winfield Street, Rugby, on Saturday, July 31 last year as a result of multiple stab injuries.

Birmingham Crown Court heard that Fincher had taken cocaine, diazepam and drank before deciding to visit his wife ahead of the attack.

Although Fincher said he accepts he caused Gabi’s injuries, he does not remember the attack and claims it was not planned.

The judge is summing up the case today (Monday) and the jury is due to retire either later today or tomorrow (Tuesday).

The Rugby Advertiser will publish the verdict as soon as it comes in.
