An author from Newton has taken a look back at the village she grew up in and written a book about its history covering the last century.

Newton the Village was written by Chris Brown and features people and buildings from past to present.

It has been printed by the Warwickshire College and is on sale at Hunt’s bookshop in Rugby.

She said: “Dylis Lewis and I started writing a book on the Church of the Good Shepherd way back in 2000.

“We started with some small scraps of paper which had been collected or copied over quite a period of time by others and then as we started delving deeper into the building of this little church.”

As Chris was reading about the lives of the people and the things that went on in the village, she decided to write the book.

“I began to talk to the people of the village about their lives and their history,” she added.

“I sincerely hope that I have inspired others to carry on delving, just giving people a view of the many photographs, revived many memories and last but not least got people talking about past times, it’s called our history.”
