RUGBY Borough Council has once again joined forces with Warwickshire Community and Voluntary Action (WCAVA) to present the Volunteer Awards 2011. Nominations are now open for four categories: long-service volunteer; young volunteer (under 25); community volunteer; and group volunteer.
Last year’s winners for these awards were George Benson of Age Concern Warwickshire, Petra Williamson of WCAVA, Jess and David Upstone of Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, and Rugby Traceurs.
Cllr Leigh Hunt, Rugby Borough Council cabinet member for Sustainable Inclusive Communities, said: “Volunteers make a significant difference to the communities they support and deserve public recognition. Being shortlisted for these awards is an achievement in itself, and I am looking forward to seeing yet more inspirational stories about how people dedicate their lives to helping others.”
Individuals and organisations can download a nomination form from www.rugby.gov.uk or request one from Pauline Cassidy at WCAVA on (01788) 561293 (between 10am and 1pm). Nominations must be received by Friday, November 4.
The awards will be presented at the Rugby Compact Celebration to be held at the Benn Hall on November 11.
