An elderly woman has suffered potentially serious head injuries after falling from her bicycle in Rugby.

The incident, which did not involve any vehicles, happened outside the Raglan Arms pub in Dunchurch Road, Rugby at just after noon yesterday.

A paramedic area support officer who had just finished a meeting with Warwickshire Police officers was passing and was on scene within seconds of the incident along with the officers.

He was backed up by a land ambulance and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The woman, who was in her late 70s, had suffered potentially serious head and facial injuries and had a reduced level of consciousness.

She wasn’t wearing a helmet.

“She was assessed at the scene and given pain relief before being taken on blue lights by land ambulance to the major trauma centre at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire. The doctor from the aircraft travelled with the crew.”
