Original oil painting and clock stolen in burglary near Rugby

An original oil painting and Swiss-made clock were stolen in a break-in in Thurlaston near Rugby.

Warwickshire Police has issued an appeal for witnesses or information following the burglary which occurred during the afternoon of Sunday August 2.

The offenders stole an original oil painting of a pastoral scene by the English artist George Vicat Cole, which is in a heavy gilt frame.

The painting itself is approximately 25cm x 18cm and depicts a dark countryside scene with a white cottage to the right of the image, and a small boy in the foreground. It is titled “Windmill in Landscape”, and is dated 1875.

A Swiss-made ATMOS clock (almost identical in appearance to the image) was also stolen.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour around the area during this time, or anyone who may have been offered these items for sale.
