Peter Pan with a twist
IT WILL soon be up, up and away for the Bilton Pantomummers as they take to the stage with their unique version of Peter Pan.
This favourite tale of the boy who never grew up and his battle with Captain Hook features all the usual characters plus a few others created by first-time writer and director Jonathan Patton. Jonathan, 20, a former Bilton School and Lawrence Sheriff student, is now at the University of Worcester but has been heading back to Bilton each weekend since September to run the rehearsals.
He said: "I'd appeared in a number of the Bilton pantos before but dropped out when I went to uni. But in my second year I saw the chance to get involved again and, having done A-level drama, always wanted to have a go at writing and directing.
"We've done all the licences to Great Ormond Street but our production keeps up the Bilton tradition of putting our own twist on a classic tale, taking the familiar situations but adding some jokes and some songs that will make it a great night out for the whole
family!"
The cast of 40 sees the return of some familiar faces the debut of some newcomers. Bilton School pupils Clare Noy and Danielle Hinds take on the roles of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, while Sophie Vassalos plays Wendy, Natalya Miles as Captain Hook and Pantomummers favourite Sam Patrick as sidekick Smi. There is also a large team of dancers working with choreographer Cat Bowering, 16, and the usual army of backstage helpers, ensuring everything is ready behind the scenes.
Jonathan said: "We've had an amazing time in rehearsals and it's great to see how it has developed since September. There's something for everyone in the show and we can't wait for opening night."
The Pantomummers will be performing at Crescent School in Bawnmore Road tomorrow (Friday) until Sunday.
Evening shows start at 7.30pm and 3pm matinees will take place on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets (3 for children/5 for adults) and available from Dudley Taylor Pharmacy and Withers Newsagents in Bilton or by calling 07740 984840.
