BT has offered assurances that it will replace a damaged K6 phone box kiosk in the town centre.

The box was destroyed beyond repair after being hit by a vehicle at the weekend.

And concerned readers got in touch with the Advertiser because the box - which is situated on Warwick Street next to the gyratory - is grade two listed on the Historic England register.

Today, a spokesperson for BT said: “An engineer made the area safe yesterday (Sunday). Our contractors will remove the damaged box shortly.

And they confirmed: “As the box is on Historic England’s register, we’re going to replace it.”
