Plenty to do at Warwickshire’s country parks this week

HAVE a fun half term holiday this week with a host of activities on offer at Warwickshire’s country parks.

Highlights include Krazy Kites, a recycled kite making activity at Ryton Pools Country Park on Tuesday (May 31) and the Wild Woods Challenge at Kingsbury Water Park on Wednesday (June 1) where teams of children aged between five and 12 attempt to complete the challenges set by the rangers.

Country parks manager Paula Cheesman said: “There is so much to see and do, plus a whole range of activities for children to enjoy during the school holidays, Warwickshire’s Country Parks is your number one local leisure time destination.”

UNTIL SUNDAY 5 JUNE

Springtime Trail at Kingsbury Water Park Collect your sheet from the Information Centre and follow the trail to find out some super Springtime facts!

Cost: £1.50 per trail sheet.

UNTIL MONDAY 30 MAY

Bank Holiday Trail at Ryton Pools Country Park Follow the clues around the park to crack the code and complete the challenge.

Cost: £1.50 per trail sheet, available from the Visitor Centre.

SUNDAY 29 MAY

Three Villages Walk from Pooley Country Park A 5-mile circular walk from the park taking in the villages of Alvecote, Shuttington and Amington with superb views of the SSSI at Alvecote Pools.

Time: 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Meet: The Visitor Centre.

Cost: Adults £2.50, Concessions £1.50, Family £7.00.

TUESDAY 31 MAY

Mad May Minibeasts at Kingsbury Water Park CU Search the meadow, peer under logs and shake the trees to find some amazing beasties! A family event.

Time: 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 noon.

Meet: The Education Centre.

Cost: £3.00 per child.

Krazy Kites at Ryton Pools Country Park CU Have a go at making your own recycled kite then join a Ranger to fly it in the park. Let’s hope for a windy day!

At weekends and school holidays in June at Pooley Country Park Our popular craft table will be set up with seasonal materials for children to make something to take home with them. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Time: 10.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Cost: £1.50 per item.

WEDNESDAY 1 JUNE

Wild Woods Challenge at Kingsbury Water Park CU Can your team complete the challenges set by the Rangers?

Go through the sticky webs, get over the piranha infested river, collect your survival kit and build a snazzy shelter before the time is up. For children aged 5 to 12 years who must be accompanied by an adult.

Time: 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 noon.

Cost: £3.00 per child.

Pond Dipping – Spotting Challenge at Ryton Pools Country Park CU Come and investigate the fascinating creatures that live under water. Have a go with the dipping nets and see what you can discover living in the ponds. For children aged 3 to 12 years who must be accompanied by an adult.

Mystery Drop In at Kingsbury Water Park CU What will it be? Activities will vary with the weather, so ring 01827 872660 for details nearer the time. For children aged 3 to 12 years who must be accompanied by an adult.

Time: Drop in anytime between 10.30 a.m. and 1.00 p.m.

Meet: The Information Centre.

Cost: £2.00 per child.

Small Mammals Close-up at Ryton Pools Country Park CU Learn about the small mammal fauna at Ryton Pools. Will our mammal traps have caught some live specimens the night before? Come along and find out. The results will be sent to The Mammal Society for analysis. A family event.

Time: 11.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

FRIDAY 3 JUNE

Underwater World – Scales and Fins at Ryton Pools Country Park CU Join us to see what swims beneath the surface of Ryton Pool. Do you know your Perch from your Pike? You will by the end of this event! See if the Rangers were successful in catching live specimens to look at. A family event.

Time: 11.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

SATURDAY 4 JUNE

Beginners Bats at Ryton Pools Country Park An evening slide show explaining the fascinating lives of these enigmatic creatures, followed by a night-time stroll with the Rangers to spot the bats of Ryton. Take part in our 3-bat challenge! Pippistrelle, Daubenton’s and Noctule – will we be lucky enough to hear/see them all? Please wear sturdy footwear and bring a torch.

Time: 8.00 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. (depending on weather)

Cost: £4.00 per person (includes a hot drink and

biscuits).
