A month after the death of a man following an incident near the taxi rank in the town centre, police have issued a renewed appeal for witnesses.

David Ryding, 26, was rushed to hospital following an incident near the taxi rank by the clock tower in the Market Place on July 7.

Mr Ryding, from Moreton in the Wirral, Merseyside, was out on a life support machine but later died in hospital the next day.

Detective Chief Inspector Ally Wright who is leading the investigation said: “It’s important I fully understand what took place at approximately 5am on Sunday 7th of July near to the taxi rank at the clock tower.

“I am certain others who were in the area would have seen and heard what went on. However it is possible they might not have understood the severity of what occurred and are unaware that someone died.

“I owe it to the grieving family to provide answers relating to David’s death. I would ask that if anyone does have information, no matter how small, that they contact the police on 01926 451111 ext 3953.”

A 21 year old male from Rugby who was arrested on suspicion of murder remains on conditional police bail pending further enquiries.
