THE stabbing in Newbold Road at the weekend was an isolated incident, according to the leading officer.

Police are going to hunt for perpetrators after a man was discovered lying on the ground in Rugby after he was stabbed at the weekend.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the Newbold Road and Lancaster Road part of town, near Caldecott Park, at around 6.15am on Saturday, following reports of a serious assault.

Warwickshire Police have confirmed that a man in his 20s suffered stab wounds to his hand and back.

He is currently in a serious but stable condition at University Hospital in Coventry.

Detective Inspector Sean Pyne said: “We are keen to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and it is being investigated thoroughly.

“We have a number of positive lines of enquiry that are being developed and for operational reasons we are unable to provide more information at this stage.”

Police closed Newbold Road and Lancaster Road for the majority of the day on Saturday while specialist officers gathered evidence.

It is the second stabbing to happen in the Newbold Road area this year.

In January another man was found lying in the road with stab wounds.

A Newbold Road resident, who declined to be named, said: “It’s not very nice to have that kind of thing happening on your doorstep - particularly because it’s happened twice in eight months.”

Another Rugby resident added: “I was horrified when I heard.”
