Volunteers turned out in force at the weekend to take part in the Great British Clean up in Hillmorton.

Hillmorton Rugby Labour members were joined by staff from McDonalds in Rugby and the Friends of East Rugby Group for the national campaign run via Keep Britain Tidy.

The helpers got to work in Kingsley Road behind Aldi, Featherbed Recreation Ground, Coton Road, Jenkins Road and then Featherbed Lane, including the post office alleyway.

They picked and collected items from jumpers to oil cans.

Jim Ellis of Hillmorton Rugby Labour said, they collected in excess of 21 bags of rubbish.

He said: “It was a great national event and one that all groups were proud to take part in.

“We had a great laugh and the sun was shining - you can’t beat it. It was a pleasure to help the community, the council and of course the National Campaign.

“Local people were great.”
