BOOKS were the main topic of the day at the Warwickshire Schools Carnegie Medal Shadowing Award 2012 event.

Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College hosted the event, in which 11 other schools took part in book readings, presentations and a quiz. Schools then voted for their top three books.

The Carnegie Medal is awarded to the writer of an outstanding book for children. Patrick Ness won for the second time as the Carnegie Medal 2012 went to A Monster Calls.

Sandy Fagan, assistant head of faculty, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young adults to engage with a range of books selected for their outstanding literary quality.”
